Lucas oil Raceway

“Fatheadz 100”
July 27, 2012
The DCI race team rolled into Indianapolis early Friday morning to a full field of 40 cars trying to make the show.
We unloaded and prepared for the first practice session. After the first practice Brett said it was loose on entry and exit. Todd made a few changes and they lined up for the second practice. Just as they started out on the track the rain started washing out the rest of practice. The decision was made to qualify with the new untried changes.
Brett qualified 19th and said it was good on entry but to tight on exit and he could not get the power down early enough. Todd made an adjustment to help the exit and lined the car up for the start of the race.
The green flag waved and Brett passed three cars in the first two laps and the caution came out on lap six. Brett radioed that the DCI Chevrolet felt real good and he would take his time and go to the front. The restart was fast and furious with the lead cars getting tangled up and blocking the track. Brett was able to slow but was shoved right into the middle of it ending his day on lap 8 of 100. Brett said “what a shame we had a great car and I think we would have been a threat to win this thing”

Anderson Speedway

“Redbud 300”
July 21, 2012
The DCI race team rolled into Anderson with high hopes. Their last visit to the high banks had Brett running 4th when a late race accident took him out.
The “Redbud 300” is one of the 3 top Late model races in the country drawing teams from all over including Kyle Bush, Chase Elliott and Ross Kenseth just to mention a few.
To everyone’s surprise the DCI Chevrolet struggled in practice. It would not turn in the center no matter what crew chief Todd Robinson tried. Brett said “no matter what you do it does not help the center”. Todd tried another change before qualifying only to hurt the exit and still had no effect on the center resulting in a terrible qualifying run of 20th. Todd commented “at least we are locked into the show and now I can really look it over”
The center problem did not make any sense to Todd so he took apart the front suspension looking for a problem that would cause this. He found that the left front bump rubber had split and was the probable cause of the tight condition. Todd replaced it and reset the front end to the original set up hoping this would fix it.
The DCI General Contractors Chevrolet is pushed to the starting g line for the autograph session and the start of the “Redbud 300”.
The drop of the green flag revealed the changes did fix the DCI Monte Carlo and Brett radioed he felt real good as he marched thru the field. The DCI team found themselves in 9th position at the halfway break. The rules allow 15 minutes to make any changes you like. The DCI team changed four tires, added fuel, bled the brakes and reset the sway bar and put the car back in line for the restart of the second half.
The green flag flies and Brett moves into 7th place “nose to tail” with the leaders as they start to lap traffic. Brett and Todd decided to ride and save tires and brakes until 50 to go and then make a run at the win. The DCI Monte Carlo was looking good until the lower radiator hose split dumping all the water and ending their chances. Brett said “I didn’t get a chance to show what I really had, I am very proud of my team and the way we preformed to that point. I want to thank everyone who made this day possible for me, DCI General Contractors, McGunegill Engine Performance, Advance Racing Suspension, Port City Race Cars and Monson Truck Lines”.

Winchester Speedway

“Winchester 100”
June 23, 2012
The DCI race team arrived early to the track on a beautiful morning. With only two scheduled practice sessions before qualifying it is very important to be ready as soon as the track opens.
Practice went ok but Brett was not comfortable with the setup. Crew chief Todd Robinson sat down with Brett to discuss exactly what he did not like. Todd made the decision to make a few major changes before qualifying.
Once again the DCI Monte Carlo passed pre qualifying tech and was presented for qualifying. Brett was happy with the changes and posted 9th quick time.
Brett was able to stay with the lead pack for the whole race finishing a respectable 7th place without a single scratch on the car. Brett commented”Winchester is a very hard place to pass even if you are faster than them!” Todd was happy with the results and looking forward to the “Redbud 300” next.

Springport Motor Speedway

“Central Michigan Ford-Kenworth 125”

June 16, 2012

I    It was the first appearance for the ARCA/CRA Super Series at the fast 3/8 mile high banked oval just south of Lansing in Springport Michigan. Sprint Cup star Ken Schrader was on hand to race the best short track drivers in the nation. Nineteen year old Brett Robinson would bring the field to the green flag after qualifying 7th. Brett battled door to door for several laps before taking the lead. The DCI Chevrolet opened up a significant lead until lap 25 when two time champ Johnny Van Doorn got by on the bottom.

B   Brett stated the car just got to loose as the tires wore down but we battled with the best and I thought we had something for them. We will be back next year and with some adjustments I think we can win this thing. I can’t wait to get back here this is a real nice place and I really like the track. I would like to thank everyone who made this possible. The DCI General Contractor,  Mcgunegill Engine Performance, Advance Racing Suspension, Monson Truck Line, Port City Racecar Chevrolet ran great today and came away with a top ten without a scratch on the car.

Shady Bowl Speedway

“The Bowl 125”
May 28, 2012
The DCI race team rolled into the very odd shaped Shady Bowl speedway on Sunday seeing this track for the very first time. By the time practice rolled around it was over 100 degrees. Brett was loose in on the first practice session so crew chief Todd Robinson made a front spring change for the second practice.  Brett said the car was much better now and was able to get the car into the top 10 in practice times.
The race team went to the hotel feeling pretty good about the day. Brett and Todd spent a few hours going over the results from the practice sessions and decided to make a few more small adjustments before qualifying.
The team arrived early the next morning and crew chief Todd Robinson made the changes they decided on and sent the DCI General Contractors Monte Carlo to pre qualifying tech. The car passed with no issues and waited to qualify. Brett busted off two good laps and qualified 9th. Brett said the car felt great and he may have left a little on the table during qualifying.
At the drop of the green flag Brett knew he had a rocket ship under him and marched his way to the front on the outside. Brett took the lead around lap 50 only to have a right front go down a few laps later. Brett was forced to pit for tires and lost a few laps under green. The DCI Monte Carlo was once again relegated to a miserable 18th place finish.
Brett tried to stay positive saying ”we had this one, I now know for sure we can beat these guys if we just have a little bit of good luck”. Todd agreed “we had the fastest car here today”.

Berlin Raceway

“Berlin 125”
May 12, 2012
The DCI race team rolls into Berlin Raceway in Marne Michigan with big hopes for the day. They unload and line up for the first practice.
Brett is in the second group to enter the track and they start to hot lap when a motor lets go in front of him and he slams the outside concrete wall coming off turn 4. His crew chief Todd Robinson works like a mad man to repair the damage but to no avail. They load up and head home without racing!
The team will make repairs and head to Winchester Speedway for the next ARCA/CRA Super Series event.

Toledo Speedway

“7up  100”
April 29, 2012
The DCI General Contractors race team pulls into Toledo Speedway only to find Mother Nature taking center stage once again. It rains all day Saturday washing out practice, not what a new team needs to have happen on their first trip to the fast ½ mile speedway.
The race team arrives to beautiful skies on Sunday and unloads for 2 quick practice sessions. Brett tells his crew chief it is way too tight off under throttle. He is 20th on the speed chart after practice.
The program is moving real fast trying to get everything in on one day. Todd made a spring change hoping this would cure the tight condition. The team rushes the DCI Monte Carlo to the pre qualifying tech and into line to qualify. The car is better but still tight off and the best Brett can do is to qualify 17th.
The cars are under impound after qualifying so Todd cannot make any major changes, only tire pressures can be adjusted. Todd adjusts tire pressures to help the tight condition and line up for the start of the “7up 100”. The adjustments help and the car starts to free up about half way and Brett drives to 6th place when the caution comes out with 2 laps to go. Under caution Brett picks up some debris from the wreck and the left rear tire starts to go down. Brett has to pit from 6th place to change the tire and another good run ends with a bad finish of 14th.
Once again the only thing missing is some good racing luck! The DCI team looks forward to the next event at Berlin Speedway.

Anderson Speedway

“ANDERSON 100”
Saturday April 14, 2012
The “Anderson 100” was Brett’s first attempt at an ARCA/CRA Super Series event. His inaugural event started out very well, with the DCI Construction Monte Carlo on the leader board after both practices on Friday.
Brett and crew chief Todd Robinson spent several hours at the hotel that night talking about the day’s results. Brett felt he was a tick loose on entry, great thru the center and pretty loose under throttle on exit. Todd decided what changes he would like to make. He wanted to change a few springs and let Brett try the new setup.
The next morning the team headed to the track feeling really good about their chances in this event only to find it pouring down rain with the event postponed until the next day. This gave the DCI Construction team a chance to make all the changes needed in a comfortable and relaxed pace.
The DCI Construction team arrived at the track on Sunday morning to a beautiful blue sky. Todd went thru his pre race routine and everyone could not wait for the final practice before attempting to qualify for his first ARCA/CRA Super Series event. Practice went very well with the DCI team in the top five practice times again and Brett really liked the changes.
It was now time to present the DCI Construction Monte Carlo for pre qualifying tech inspection. The car passed tech inspection and was placed in line to qualify. The command to start was given as Brett’s turn to qualify came up and it would not start! It turns out during the inspection of the Ignition box the wiring was damaged. The DCI Monte Carlo was pulled from the qualifying line and Todd worked franticly to figure out what happened. The wiring harness was repaired and Brett was forced to start dead last as a provisional starter. Brett tried to lighten the situation telling the crew he felt like he could still drive to the front with the great changes made before practice.
The green flag flies and Brett made his march up thru the field with the DCI Construction Monte Carlo moving into 5th place by the lap 60 mark when the caution flag came out. On the restart Brett was able to run “nose to tail” with the lead pack.  The top five pulled away and Brett’s chances looking better all the time when the third place car tried to pass and lost it spinning down thru the infield coming back on the track and collecting Brett ending his first ARCA/CRA Super Series race.
The official results will show a 19th place finish but Brett and the whole team left the track knowing if not for bad racing luck he had a shot at winning his first race with the series. The team could not wait for the next event at Toledo Speedway!

DCI Motorsports to Field ARCA/CRA Super Series for Rookie Contender Brett Robinson

DCI Motorsports is proud to announce its expansion into the ARCA/CRA Super Series for the upcoming 2012 season. Brett Robinson will drive the DCI General Contractors, AR Bodies, Advance Racing Suspension, Port City Racecars Chevrolet powered by a McGunegill Engine Performance sealed motor. Todd and Charlie Craig owners of DCI General Contractors say they are very excited to move Brett into the Super Series after a very successful couple of years in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series.

“Brett has proved he can win and is a very talented,” stated Todd Craig. “He has excellent feedback and is doing a good job of paving the way for his teammate Trey Craig. We feel he has dramatically sped up the learning curve for Trey who just turned fifteen. Trey ran an abbreviated schedule last year showing big improvements and we expect him to challenge for wins this year with some setup and coaching from Brett in the CRA Late Model Sportsman Series. We feel we can do the same in the Super division and have a smooth transition when we feel the time is right.”

“Todd Craig has given me an opportunity of a lifetime to be a part of a fantastic series and to be able showcase our team in a bigger market,” stated Brett.
Brett is a third generation driver, his grandfather Jim raced ARCA in the sixties and was teammates with Darrel Waltrip on the Fall City Brewing team. He won several 500 lap races and was real well known throughout the Midwest. His father Todd raced in the CRA series in the nineties and his uncle Jim was crew chief for Todd then worked with Frank Kimmel’s ARCA Racing Series team for several years.

Brett has been at the race track since he was one month old and he started driving at 11 years old winning his first championship in 07 with the MMRA national touring series. He moved to the MMRA baby Grand series in 08 and dominated the season ending show at Riverview Speedway were he caught the eye of some owners who gave him the opportunity to move him into the late model division. He ran a couple of CRA Late Model Sportsman Series shows in 2009 and won the Anderson 75 in 2010, which was just his sixth race ever in a late model car thanks to Todd Craig and the DCI team.

Brett will turn 19 April 13th just in time for a wonderful birthday present being able to drive the DCI car in the ARCA/CRA Super Series.

“It is a dream come true,” added Robinson. “I have been waiting for this opportunity and I want to thank the whole DCI team!”
